Sound Makes The Movie Zoom's 2010 Q3HD Video Recorder
In 2010 Zoom announced the availability of their Q3HD Handy Video Recorder – Only Point-and-Shoot to Record HD Video & HD Audio. This was Zoom's dedicated Q3HD website created to promote the Zoom Q3HD camcorder by showing HD footage shot with the Q3HD .
When the site's domain registration expired this site disappeared from the web. The new owners of the domain wanted to keep as a historical record this site and the 2010 reviews of this nifty, innovation HD video recorder.

The Q3HD Story.
When Zoom introduced the H4 Handy Recorder in 2006, it was met with staggering praise from critics and consumers, audio professionals and aspiring musicians. At the time, a handheld recorder combining such a level of audio quality and ease of use was unprecedented.
Then the H2 burst onto the scene. Capturing great audio was a breeze on the H2, making it Zoom’s most popular handheld recorder.
In 2009, Zoom introduced the Q3, adding a whole new dimension to great audio capture: video. The Q3 changed everything, offering the same quality video with sound quality unmatched on a handheld camcorder. YouTube videos never sounded so good.
And then there was HD…
Now, with the Q3HD, Zoom takes the video quality up a few levels to match its pristine audio, allowing you to capture every moment with stunning clarity. Classical to metal, solo to full orchestra, the Q3HD is ideal for shooting any kind of musical performance and sharing it with the world. With the Q3HD, it’s never been easier or more fun to shoot great looking and sounding videos.

Zoom Q3HD point-and-shoot camcorder now available
December 1, 2010 |By Rachel King for Digital Cameras & Camcorders | www.zdnet.com/
Announced back in October, the Zoom Q3HD camcorder, dubbed as "the only handheld to record both HD video and HD audio," is now available.
Zoom is already known for its high-end audio recorders (the H2 was a personal favorite of mine a few years back), it's only natural that the company would add some HD video to the package. Thus, the Q3HD combines 24-bit/96kHz audio with full HD 1080p at 30fps (or 720p at 30/60fps) for quality shooting from a pocket-sized video camera.
Videos are best watched on a display with a 16:9 aspect ratio via HDMI or when transferred to a PC or Mac via USB 2.0. Users can squeeze out up to seven hours HD video when using a 32GB SDHC card. The minimum is 45 minutes of HD video with the included 2GB SD card.
Powered by a pair of AA batteries, the Zoom Q3HD is available now for $299.99. There's also an accessory bundle ready for the taking at $39.99, which includes a soft shell case, windscreen, AC adapter, HDMI cable, AV cable and tripod.
Sound makes the movie.
With the new Q3HD, there’s only one handheld camcorder that does it all in High Definition. Now bands bring their live shows to all their fans. Students can see every rehearsal, recital or performance. Teachers can evaluate and inspire. And musicians everywhere can share it all with an HD world.
Zoom’s Q3HD brings HD video and audio together for great looking movies that sound better than ever.
Brilliant Stereo Recording… Now with HD Video.
The Q3HD uses the same microphone capsules as Zoom’s industry-leading H4n Handy Recorder. From live musical performances, rehearsals and recitals to journalism, education, sports or travel, the Q3HD’s pristine audio is so realistic your movies will transport you back to the moment, to relive over and over again.
Designed with everything you need to make your movies right out of the box, the Q3HD includes a 2GB SD card, HandyShare editing software and two AA batteries. With a 2GB SD card, you can record up to 45 minutes of HD video. The Q3HD will also accept SDHC cards of up to 32GB for a staggering 7 hours of HD moviemaking.

Hauppauge, NY – December 01, 2010 – Zoom, makers of award-winning stereo recorders, is excited to announce availability of the highly anticipated Q3HD Handy Video Recorder – the only handheld to record both HD video and HD audio (24-bit/96kHz). The Q3HD combines Full HD 1080p video with Zoom's renowned audio technology and a new user-friendly icon-based interface allowing users to capture truly immersive movies with ease and confidence.
The Q3HD records in both Full HD 1080p at 30 fps (frames per second) and 720p at 30 or 60 fps. Zoom paired its redesigned larger aperture with three lighting settings to ensure the perfect amount of light in every shot. Zoom's exclusive "Concert Lighting" setting allows the camera to capture clear, detailed videos even in light-intensive environments that would cause most camcorders to wash out.
Zoom smartly incorporated the same microphone capsules used in their industry-leading H4n recorder, configured in a wide 120° X/Y pattern, offering unparalleled stereo recording quality. Users will appreciate how simple it is to set audio levels using the onboard level meters and mic gain switch with auto gain control.
After shooting, videographers can turn the Q3HD on its side to watch videos in 16:9 format on its color LCD screen or take advantage of the built-in HDMI port to view and share new footage on an HDTV. The Q3HD also has a built-in USB 2.0 cable to transfer, view and edit movies on a PC or Mac.
The Q3HD comes with a 2GB SD card that provides up to 45 minutes of HD video and accepts up to a 32GB SDHC card for approximately 7 hours of HD video. Zoom also includes HandyShare editing software and two AA batteries.
The Zoom Q3HD is now available at major retailers across the country for $299.99 MAP. A Q3HD accessory package (APQ-3HD) that includes a soft shell case, windscreen, AC adapter, HDMI cable, AV cable and tripod can be purchased separately for $39.99 MAP.

Zoom Q3HD Handy Video Recorder
We first looked at Zoom's Q3HD Handy Video Recorder when it was announced in October. The point-and-shoot unit combines HD audio recording with 1080p video at 30 frames per second, a 2.4-inch LCD screen for immediate playback and ... you can now get your hands on one.
Zoom is primarily known as an audio specialist, so it's not surprising that sound quality was the priority for its first Q3 Handy Video Recorder offering which featured 640 x 480 resolution video recording. The new HD version gives the video side of the equation a boost with full 1080p at 30 frames per second or both 30 and 60 frames per second at 720p. Inside there's a 5 megapixel CMOS sensor and the lens has a fixed aperture of F2.8 with no optical zoom (4X digital).
On the audio side the Q3HD records up to 24-bit/96kHz WAV or up to 320kbps AAC and uses the same microphone capsules as the company's H4n Handy Recorder (a device that has cemented a place in gizmag's on-the-road kit) arranged in a 120 degree x/y configuration.
The Zoom Q3HD costs US$299.99 with a 2GB SD card thrown in. The 2GB card is good for 45 minutes of HD video – shelling out for a 32GB SDHC card will get you approximately 7 hours of HD video according to Zoom.

Sound is a weak point for any piece of video recording equipment without a specialized mic. Since iPhones and Flip HDs and other portable camera-devices generally lack boom mics, this means a plethora of videos with nigh-inaudible sound.
